Shoulder Shrugs

This movement is wonderful for releasing tension from the often tight muscles of the neck, shoulders, and upper back. When done properly, you will feel a stretch at the top and bottom of the movement.

 1. Stand with arms relaxed by your sides and your head straight.

 2. Raise your shoulders up toward your ears, rolling them slightly backward at the top of the movement.

 3. Lower your shoulders back to the starting position and then press them toward the floor.

 4. Continue this up-and-down shrug motion at a slow, controlled pace, taking about two seconds per repetition.

 5. Perform a total of twenty to thirty shrugs.
