Directions:  
Char sliced onions in 1 tsp oil. remove from heat, coarse chop and set aside. Over med heat cook mustard seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and clove in small pan till fragrant, 1 1/2 min or so. remove from heat and combine with cinnamon, cardamon and chile. Put in spice or coffee grinder and pulse till ground.
Heat 2 tsp oil in small dutch oven over med hi heat. Add ginger and garlic to pan and saute 1 minute. Stir in spices, saute 1 min. Add broth, lentils and tomatoes to pan, bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 min., stirring occasionally. Uncover; add onions and cook 10 min. Stir in cilantro and juice.
