Directions:  
(1) In medium bowl, cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Mix thoroughly.

(2) Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture.

(3) Roll dough into balls, then roll each in sugar.

(4) Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cookies will be soft and puffy but will deflate as they cool. Remove to wire racks to cool. Store in airtight container to keep them chewy.
