Directions:  
1.) Sautee chopped onions and garlic for approx 5 minutes.
2.)While sauteeing, wash split peas, Put in crock pot. Layer next with cubed ham an ddiced carrots. Take onions off stove and layer on top of carrots. Add 2 bay leaves, water, and chicken bouillon.
3.) Heat in crock pot for 5-6 hours.
$.) optional: if you want a puree of the soup I put mine in the blender.
I sometimes garnish with croutons and goat cheese.
