Mix sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Add butter to boiling mixture, and stir into a syrup.

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut in Crisco and milk. Knead into dough, and roll flat. Cut into six even squares.

Pare and core apples. Wrap each apple with pie dough. Pour syrup on top of all apples.

Place each apple in a 13x9 inch pan. Bake 35-45 minutes at 375ºF, or until apples are tender.
