2  teaspoons		baking powder
1/2  teaspoon		salt
1/3  cup		unsalted butter, room temperature
1  cup		sugar
1		egg
1  teaspoon		vanilla
2/3  cup		milk

preheat oven to 350F

In a medium bowl, stir flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt and set aside.

Beat butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium until creamy. Beat in sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well to incorporate. On low speed, beat in a third of flour mixture followed by half of milk. Repeat additions, ending with flour mixture until well mixed.

Scrape into prepared pan. Smooth top gently. Bake in centre of oven until a cake tester inserted comes out clean (20-23 minutes). Cover loosely with foil during last 10 minutes of baking if cupcakes become too dark before they are done. Cool on a rack 10 minutes then remove from pan and cool completely - about 30 minutes.
