At the age of 25 my mother proved to be right once again. My lean figure had begun the transformation to... well not so lean. My metabolism was slowing, and I could no longer eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted without recourse.
Since I started football in junior high, I had always been thin. Even before that I only had a slight belly from my childhood. In college, when money was scarce and cafeteria food all had the same faux-eggs taste, I became extremely thin. To the point that I believe I could have passed for having an eating disorder. I feel fairly certain that a 21 year old male standing 5'10" and weighing 135 pounds just isn't healthy.
I'm now 27 years old and weigh 152 pounds. That means I've gained roughly 3 pounds a year for the last 6 years. Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my weight and shape now; it looks much healthier. The problem is that a flight of stairs or slight jog now is just a little more strenuous than I would like for it to be.
I have become "skinny-fat". I have thin arms, legs, and a small undefined chest combined with a slight beer belly. It's just not the look I'm going for. I also don't want to go back to the heroin-chic-rockstar look, nor do I want the look of a professional body builder. I would be perfectly fine with the way I look now if I was slightly more muscular and toned.
That is not what I am striving for though. I aspire to look like an olympic swimmer, or a pro baseball player. I want to look like the guy on the front of a Men's Health magazine or in a Calvin Klein underwear advertisement.
This is going to be my newest challenge. I am getting married October 28th, 2008 in St. Lucia, and I want to be in shape by then. I want to be able to run in the surf and not feel like I'm gasping for air, I want working out to be part of my routine, and I want to be pleasently shocked with the image I see when I look in the mirror.
So today, I have set my weight and measurement goals, designed a workout program, and setup a diet plan. This is my new game. I am playing The Sims 3 - Real Life. It's time to make my dreams come true.
