Even the most regimented of R.D.s will weaken at the mere mention of a favorite treat. Here, six top nutritionists spill their secret indulgences.

Lori Marcotte, M.P.H., M.S., R.D.

"I have two. First, there's Oreo cookie ice cream from a small shop in Winthrop, Massachusetts. It's actually low-fat, but it makes a wonderful treat on a warm summer's night. I also love frappes—preferably a French Vanilla Fribble from Friendly's restaurant. This indulgence is best after a long run (when I'm training for a marathon). I figure it's a delicious way to replenish some fluids and carbohydrates!"

Susan M. Kleiner, Ph.D., R.D., C.N.S., FACN

"It may sound funny, but my favorite indulgence is red wine. I don't have a sweet tooth, but a wonderful, warm red wine makes me feel cozy all over."

Leslie J. Bonci, M.P.H., R.D.

"My favorite indulgence is carrot cake. I let myself have it once a month, usually on a Sunday evening after a very long training run. I figure I deserve it. There aren't that many places that make wonderful carrot cake, and I wouldn't make it myself. So when I find it, I will eat it—and enjoy it!"

Tracy Stopler Kasdan, M.S., R.D.

"I don't even have to think about it. It's Turkey Hill's Mint Cookies and Cream ice cream. It's tasty and comforting. I eat it whenever I want it."

Jack L. Smith, Ph.D.

"I'd have to say it's my wife's chocolate pie—the combination of the flavor and creamy texture makes it a really special dessert. I'll have it about three or four times a year."

Susan Learner Barr, M.S., R.D.

"A hot-out-of-the-oven bagel from Ess-A-Bagel (in New York City), or just any just-baked roll with a small spreading of real butter. My other favorite indulgence is my daughter's homemade pizza. She even makes her own yeasted crust. It's the best, but extremely filling!"
