Start with what you like...

I miss the skinny guy I used to be. Of course, when I was that skinny guy I wanted to be someone else, not sure that a "big, doughy, old guy" was ever on my Wish List though. What I'm looking for here is not so much weight loss as a simple exchange: 35 lbs of useless fat for 10-15 lbs of lean, hard muscle, net loss of 20-25 lbs of fat.
In my particular case my body image is tied very closely with my age. I can deal (more or less) with the white hair and wrinkles but the barrel shape is beginning to piss me off. I was blessed with a metabolism like a blast furnace...until about 45 years of age. Now it's more like a friendly little camp fire. Yes, I've had my thyroid checked and I DO take thyroid supplements but they were NOT the magical "cure" I was hoping for. I was fairly good about walking regularly (thanks to my dog) until I "blew my knee out" (torn meniscus). I go to see the Orthopedic guy today, finally! Bottom line? I am WAY too young to be as old as I am!
What I was (and still am) hoping for is a website that allows me to list my favorite foods and THEN helps me decide portions and diet plans that meet my calorie goals. I'm all for trying new things but I suspect I'll be more successful on an eating plan that includes the foods I'm used to and enjoy.
