My first 3 weeks

Ok so my husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on Aug 17 and of coarse we had to change EVERYTHING we had in our cupboards. I know how it is to try to change your eating habit's by yourself since I had dieted before and no one else in the house did.So I desided that since hubby had to change his eating habits we all would (this will also help the grocery bill and meal planning). So the week before we found out he had diabetes I had already cut WAY back on our sugar intake, but we cut it out almost totally once we knew what was going on with him. So far we have changed to lots of turkey and chicken (hubby never liked either) and leaner beef and pork (been almost the whole 3 weeks w/o pork hubby's not liking it) We are counting calories and carbs BIG TIME along with portion control and walking 2-3 times a day. I do some strenght training (but not much I admit) *bows head in shame*. But I have noticed a change in my energy level over the weeks, I do have more and I do feel better however it still is a come and go kind of thing. I know that mostly it's because I don't make myself do the exercise I'm supposed to do but I'll be the first to admit it's my own laziness. Anyway I am 31 yrs old 5'3" and weighed 236.6 when I first started. I have been averaging less than 1000 calories a day and under 50 carbs (I think will have to double check the carbs) when I weighed in for the first time I was down to 236.2 this was about 3 days into the new diet. Now here it is Sept 3rd and I am now 232.6. I know it's not a very impressive amount but I am thrilled. The best part is that I really enjoy the new changes to the diet I am not feeling deprived (like alot of diets left me feeeling before) I am getting full at meals because instead of loading down on high carbs we are having more low carb choices that we can have more of. I normal make a meat 2-3 veggie sides and there is always a salad. We do keep some sweets around but not many and they are kept someplace out of sight. I try to make a dessert at night ( found a very good cheesecake recipe on dlife.com) or a lil something special that we never did before. I know that I can keep this up because I want to keep my hubby around for many more yrs, and I feel like everyday if I am not on top of the cal carb count ( AND getting him full) it just ends up making these unwanted changes for him that much harder.
