When I started my intention was to use the Chalean Turbofire system, man it was tough. I decided I had to throttle it back and work my way into it. I am not in the shape I thought I was in. So I switched to Chalean extreme. I focuses on resistance work to boost metabolism to maximize calorie burn. It is also a less aerobic workout, which gives my system a chance to catch up. I think it is loosely based on Mike Mentzer H.I.T. training. I have used this in the past and must say it totally works if you follow it to the letter. I did the Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit 1 today, and it was hard. I didn't use very heavy weights, and it was still tough. My legs were burning more than anything. I think this is a program I can stick to until I can switch to turbofire. Only thing is you train every other day. I have to find something to do on the off day. I may use a Jillian Micheals aerobic dvd or maybe just treadmill. I ordered my 35 lbs. Kettlebell from Walmart today($47.54). I am going to use this weight until I can progress to the 44 lbs. and finally the 53 lbs.(Russian military standard weight they use). No need to go beyond 53 lbs. ever, unless you're a strength competitor. These workouts and the kettlebells will come in handy with my transformation. I read today that the Army is thinking about switching from the APFT(pushups, situps, running) to the Army Combat Readiness Test(ACRT). This test is similar to the marine CRT. It consists of real movement not just calisthenics. It's a big change for the army in the last 20 years. Well, I have to go do some grocery shopping.
