Time to try this again...

Now that my broken finger is on the mend, I can move on to worrying about my potential hypertension problem.  I haven't been to a doctor specifically about my blood pressure yet, but the last few times I've been seen by a physician they have mentioned that it is high.  Granted, those were all times when I was either ill or injured, but hypertension runs in my father's side of the family and I'm not at all surprised to have it.  I'm only 27, and other than a struggle with weight since puberty, I've always been very healthy.  I'd prefer to deal with this hypertension as quickly and naturally as possible to avoid taking drugs like my father has to.  Obviously weight loss would work wonders.

As far as I can tell, my weight problems don't stem so much from overeating as they do from eating the wrong things too late at night and never drinking enough water.  I have a very bad habit of skipping meals.

I don't have an exercise routine, but I do walk a minimum of 2 brisk miles every day just getting to and from work (I don't have a car and it's a mile to the bus stop into town).  My job is quite physical.  I spend the whole day on my feet and there is usually a lot of heavy lifting.  I have do have decent muscles hiding under these layers of fat, haha!  I'm pretty wiped out by the end of the day and I get home late, so additional exercise is about the last thing on my mind.  As the weather warms up, I'd like to get back into biking on the weekends at least.  And I'm interested in doing some yoga to improve flexibility and help prevent lower back strain that happens so often at work.

Back to blood pressure... Tonight I bought a monitor with an automatically inflating cuff so I can keep track of my daily blood pressure.  And I've started taking some supplements that can help lower it a bit... magnesium and coenzyme Q-10.  I'm also taking a B-complex vitamin with vitamin C.  The B vitamins are supposed to help with depression.
