This is the year the I, along with all of my high school friends, turn 50!  Oh my God!  How did this happen?  Who were all those old people at my 30th high school reunion just a few years ago?  Old, fat, and bald.....and the sad thing is that I could actually say I fit in two of those three categories.  (Don't be smart alecky......at least I still have my hair, not to mention a few that are filling in my full beard and mustache nicely...ha ha ha!)

Back to the story.........I am blessed with longevity in my family.  A grandfather that is currently 97 and still kicking and living on his own.  So now that means that if I'm lucky and healthy enough, I could live that long.  If I'm doing the math correctly, and I hope I don't have to use any of the "new math" the kids are doing.......I'm about half way through my life now.  Again..............OH MY GOD!

Mid October of 2010 it was like a light bulb went off in my head about this issue and I decided that I just didn't want to struggle the second half of my life with my weight and appearance, like I have for the first half.

I kicked myself in the butt and joined a weight loss center and to date, have hit the 75 pound mark of the 100 total that I would like to lose.  Yes, when I get focused, I stay focused.  Losing the weight has never been a problem.......keeping it off is.  I joined the center for two years; a year to lose the weight, and a year of maintenance, and I plan to stick with it to the bitter end.

I have this momentum that I need to keep going and I think the tools here on FitClick can help me get to the end of the journey and maintain the focus and drive that I need to monitor myself to keep my body in check and have it live around what I want to do and not me living around what my body should be able to do.

I think I have my head on right this time about what I have to do to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle and I know it is going to suck sometimes and it's not going to be easy, but I'm in it for the long haul.

I wish everyone out there who is trying to either lose weight or just get healthier through diet and exercise good luck on their journey.  Keep after it, do your best and then think about how you could do a little more or a little better the next day and keep it fun and interesting.   Challenge yourself to be the best you can be, WE CAN DO THIS!!!
