I knew that I had to do something to get active. I was wasting my time sitting watching TV and feeling sorry for myself. It wasn't until my sister came home from school that she said she felt she needed to know how to protect herself. It turns out some young guys were harassing her and she wasn't having it. She wanted to do kickboxing so we started looking into that. That's how I found Taekwondo.
Taekwondo is a type of martial art that originated in Korea eons ago. Literally Tae means to kick or smash with the foot, Kwon means to punch or block with the hand, and Do means art or way of life. Since a kid I was fascinated by martial art movies and spent my time trying to see the latest Jackie Chan or Jet Li movie, so it was the obvious choice. Somehow I convinced my sister to go to the Dojang (Taekwondo School). We tried the first lesson together and we both loved it.
Unfortunately because I was still in the middle of the semester at school I couldn't start until one week ago, and wow what work out it is! I had watched my sister in class many times. I will even admit to laughing at her because even though she is thin she was getting winded and just having the hardest time ever trying to keep up. In my first class is where she got to laugh at me for not being able to keep up.
Let me get to the point. The burn you feel after class is so intense! I was walking funny afterwards for the next two days. Then on the third class we did ONE- HUNDRED push ups! Never in my life have I even attempted thirty. Yesterday was all about technique and one of the exercises was to kick our way across the room without letting our kicking foot touch the ground. So you're basically making little jumps with one leg and side kicking with the other. All that I can say is "Bring on the pain and burn"!
This is where I got the inspiration for Burn-Do. I want to be able to burn the pounds of, so I have to turn the burn into a way of life. It is the only way to get my life back and live it. I’ve spent enough time saying that I’m going to change my ways, and enough time of just wasting away.
