My name is Gamza, I have been designing for about two years (
https://resumethatworks.com/). After college, I worked in the company as a project manager, in which I later began to design. But time goes on, and I decided to change the company and started looking for a new job.
Having designed a case on Behance with a project that I was working on, I set about sending out a resume.
I have no experience what to do?
Nobody needs a designer without experience, well, seriously. All companies want to hire a specialist for 2 years + for inexpensive and which will work productively from day one. There are exceptions where companies need intern, June, which they will “customize” for themselves, but believe me, there are very few of these companies, and the demand for these desired places is very great!
But do not be upset, not everything is so terrible.
A starting point
If you do not have experience and portfolio accordingly, then for me - the best solution is a pet project!
There are also options to make redesigns of large social networks or popular applications, but you must be sure that your features and innovations will really make the product better and better. But such cases are full of Behance.
As for the pet project, it’s a little easier there. It all depends on your imagination.
Think about an idea, you can choose a topic that is currently heard or that you think is promising, while you can implement anything you want and show work on the different stages of the project, from warframes to animations and a set of your icons.
This will give you the opportunity to show your skills in working with different tools, as well as demonstrate how you think and develop your idea.
Test tasks
Be prepared for the fact that they will send you tests that are not done in a few hours, and over which you can sit all weekend. And the most interesting thing is that there are no guarantees that they will even answer you after you send a ready-made solution.
Yes, yes, many companies do not even bother to send a negative answer, even if you honestly spent a lot of time on their task. But this is more of a claim to the HR departments of those companies.
You need to do test tasks so that if you received a negative answer, you would not be ashamed to add this work to your portfolio. For such cases, services such as Dribbble are very convenient, but in order to get there, you need to receive an invitation. An alternative to dribble is Uplabs.
In custody
I want to say that finding a job, especially if you have no experience, can drag on for a month or two, so the main thing is not to give up, develop, do what you love and make this world a little more convenient.
Good luck searching!
