Personal reflection

I find the company's way of leadership to be very satisfying. In fact, it was demonstrated that their philosophy is not based on sole words alone. They do indeed respect and understand the employees. Good business relationships between the employees and the administration is something that I find to be one of the key reasons why the company has become so successful and is still growing today expanding their business like they never did before. The Board of Directors as well as the CEO follow their own business code which is strictly adhered to by every single agent, employee, or an executive within the company. Thanks to that, I think they are doing a very good job to ensure that the representatives act accordingly providing an extremely satisfying result even for the most demanding costumers. Perhaps, I should also include some facts about the politics of the company. Unlike some other similar companies, charity is very common in the Four Seasons affairs. They are quite famous for playing a huge role in the creation of Terry Fox Run  the most successful cancer research organization today. In fact, there are a lot of famous names within the ranks of their seniors, most of which are known for being extremely well experienced and professional. I would go as far as to say that their corporate biographies speak for themselves. Some of their top executives include people like Christian Clerc and Vince Parotta, both well known for their professionalism and work ethic. If I were to start a business career, for sure, I would say that joining among the ranks of those mentioned above would be a very good aim in any business career, especially given the fact that the Four Seasons leadership encourages their employees to not abandon their dreams. Instead, they work as hard as they can to achieve their personal goals in the business provided that they offer some of the best salaries even for low-ranking workers if they are willing to become a part of a big friendly Four Seasons family.

The Treatment of Internal Customers

When dealing with their employees, the Four Seasons follows a golden rule which could be formulated in a following way  Treat the others the way you expect to be treated by them. I find it to be fair. That very same golden rule literally dictates that the employees are to be treated with respect and dignity that they deserve, since Isadore Sharp himself is sure that it helps to create a perfect environment which will assist in bringing the best out of their workers, as well as strengthen their trust with the company. I am strongly convinced, that Four Seasons values every single employee and treats them with an equal amount of respect, which is something to be proud of. Sharp understands that the hotel workers, in fact, are the only people who can create the best conditions to please their customers. To name a few advantages of being a Four Seasons employee, I should mention that they are able to stay in any property of the company for free. They are also allowed to stay in different hotels with their families when traveling that allows themselves to create an immersion of comfort that they themselves provide to the customers. Sharp prefers to treat everyone within the company as an individual, which is a pretty tough deal. Especially, given his age, he still tries to read most of the letters from the low-ranking workers to ensure that the philosophy of his Golden Rule is kept intact. I personally find this to be a very good example of how an employee should be treated. Most successful employees also receive certain accolades and are officially recognized thanks to their contribution. They encourage the rest of the team by giving such employees prizes as well as the two most inspiring awards  The Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year. Those who even decided to quit the company for different reasons are not to be forgotten since in that case, each worker receives a special farewell gift upon retiring from his services, thus ensuring that their former employers have good memories.

The Treatment of External Customers

Just like with the employees, the Four Seasons is famous for holding the customers in a highest ethical regard. Their main idea is all about being absolutely hospitable and respectable to all the needs of those who chose to spend a vacation in one of their hotels. I personally find Sharps philosophy to be the main factor behind the success of the business since he has proven to follow that same Golden Rule over a course of time, and it has been already more than fifty years since he had found the company back in 1961. It should also be noted that the service was received very warmly by big press, including The Rolling Stone magazine. I also find it very important that they guarantee technical support to their customers practically twenty four hours a day, while providing concierge, laundry, and room service along with daily twice-a-day housekeeping. Such an understanding treatment makes me wish I could actually one day stop and experience at least one of their hotels myself. Of course, the Four Seasons could be called one of the most expensive hotels in the world although the money customers pay is indeed worth the luxury offered. The Four Seasons also provide their customers with good beds for a comfortable sleep which cannot be said about many other hotels. Their beds are known around the world to be very customizable in order to suit the needs of any user. What I was also surprised to find out was the fact that the company also provides special jet-flights for the customers, usually married couples, to some of the most romantic places in the world, including abandoned islands and historically significant cultural destinations. With such reputation, it is no wonder that the Four Seasons continues to expand already having hotels in more than 20 countries around the world in only 56 years after the first Four Seasons hotel was opened by Isadore Sharp himself in Toronto. Indeed, it is a good example of how one could build a huge business, yet keeping a public face and personal philosophy intact.

The Knowledge I Acquired and Am Going to Use

Upon having acquainted with this book, I feel like I was given a very good lecture about business and its main ideas that were demonstrated. A lot of attention was given to the small details, which is a very good thing. I think all this newly obtained knowledge would help me a lot if I were to start a business of my own. I was especially curious about Isadores Golden Rule which he actually followed in a long run, creating a long-lasting legacy that we may know today. I am very keen on such philosophy as it is something every business company should be extremely proud of. It helped me to understand the value of customers as they are the people who either make the business grow by investing their money or simply abandon it. I would certainly make sure to be very understanding and helpful to my costumers if I once decide to set up my business. I hope to be able to apply some of the ideas from the book not only in actual business, but also in many aspects of social life as well by practicing my leadership and learning how to actually be a central person in a certain group of people. Now, if to talk about a certain career, I would use the knowledge that I acquired after reading this book to create a comfortable environment to ensure that all the conditions suit me well enough to further make my way up the career ladder. From Sharps personal history, I have also learned that things did not go smooth at the beginning since at times he had to fire almost the entire staff for the better outcome. That is something I have also took in mind as one should not hesitate when he is actually in charge of a big business in order to be able to make serious decisions when it is needed. I am sure that anyone would find some of the Sharps ideas very helpful in business and even in many aspects of personal affairs like I did after reading this book.

My Subjuctive Definition of Perfect Service Management

My own definition of service management basically consists of some ideas there are pretty simmilar to what was presented by Sharp and his company. I do respect honest and fair releationships in business and denoune corruption and bribery. Of course, to me, the quality will always be above the quantity; for the same reason, I think it would be the most smart to create a certain level of management that ensures a very effective perfomance in all aspects. I also think that a highly acclaimed performance level will assist in attracting more costumers, thus effectively surpassing the rivals. I am strongly convinced that business is indeed a place where you cannot be a lone wolf that avoids the rival companies/establishments by blindly remaining ignorant and not paying any attention to their existance. I am going to conclude by quoting a great man named Steve Jobs who once said: Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people.
