Response to Question 2

Watching drama gives an individual a life experience performance. It is important to note that collaborative production as well collective reception influence the structure of the dramatic texts. This doesn’t apply to other forms of performance. In the world of theatre, entertainment is key and therefore any form of performance should avoid too much religious education. This can only be achieved through comic drama. The characters usually have a significant role of moving the audience from reality to a world of fantasy. This makes drama to be more interesting due to the fact that an individual would easily follow the play with all their emotions. Drama compresses an individual’s life by eliminating unpleasant equivocation as well the general mundane bullshit of the daily activities.

The fact that drama keeps the characters in the dark while the audience in the light, accords the viewers a world of certainty and clarity. For instance, if the theme of the play is about tragedy, the intensified experiences of a character makes the audience to feel connected with the events in the context. The experiences of the character are usually time-compressed whereas the action and meaning occur simultaneously. A certain event that would possibly take months or rather years to figure out in real life takes no time at all in a play. The God’s-eye view of an audience facilitates the comprehension of the impact of the events as they happen. Drama also quality essay enhances the understanding of what a character is going through at the time and what he or she needs to change in order to improve the life being led.

Drama teaches through shared experiences due to the fact that the audience live vicariously through the story. At the end of the day, an audience will have something to say. Memories will be created through pointing out the events in the play. Through such discussions, an individual becomes open-minded, and therefore can accommodate new ideas as well as perspectives. Drama performance is always at the forefront to challenge the audience’s thinking by exposing them to a new world of issues. At times, the audience is expected to insert themselves in a character’s shoes and in the process, an individual would easily connect with a character that they were intending to avoid completely. All these reasons justify the fact that watching drama is quite interesting than any other form of performance.

Response to Question 3

The ‘for-profit’ theatre is termed as a business whereby its owners make a financial gain through its profits while the ‘not-for-profit’ is a type of theatre where a majority of its margins is used to further its purpose. Thus, for-profit theater creates room for employment in a given community while not-for-profit theatre focusses mainly on educating the community members as well as enriching their art. In most cases, for-profit theatre is typically formed as a partnership implying that a company would produce one play then decide to disband it. On the other hand, not-for-profit theatre’s partnership continues where a slate of plays are produced during each season. Investors are usually taxed of the profits gained meaning that any loss incurred is deductible in the for-profit theater. This is quite indifferent with the not-for-profit theatre whereby the surplus income is used for the theatre’s maintenance or any other use. It is important to note that the donations made here are deductible for the most part. In the not-for-profit theatre, a production is an open-ended run in the sense that it is rarely planned whereas in the case of for-profit theatre, a production is planned as an open-ended run in most occasions in regards to the ticket support. Last but not least, producers of for-profit theatre don’t necessarily own the theatre where the show is playing while not-for-profit producers own and maintain their theater spaces.

In this reflection, therefore, the for-profit theater and not-for-profit theatre are equally significant. A not-for-profit theatre may be in an old building with historical value which is beneficial to both the community and non-community members. Again, the donations together with money obtained from selling tickets will be used for preservation and the restoration of the same building. Those ones outside the building will use the remaining surplus after extracting all expenses to enrich the community further in terms of better productions and educational classes. Despite the fact that it depends largely on the volunteers who work for their love of art, a non-profit theatre will need to pay its base stuffs implying that in a way, employment has been created for people enabling them to put food on their table.

On the other hand, the for-profit theatre is actually a business being an important asset to a given community in which it performs. It is privately-owned and its employees are paid. Moreover, it is a source of employment to many hence eliminating poverty in a community. An entrepreneur who is determined to start a solid business, may start one in order to make good money. Such an individual would have promoted the idea of being self-employed rather than seeking for jobs which at times are inadequate. This benefits all the community members while the owner’s dreams and passions are expanded and thus develop strategies for guiding the direction of the business in the best way.

The significance of each of the theaters stated above illustrates that all of them are essential for the development of the community in the context. Moreover, both of them are sources of income to the community members. Despite the fact that not-for-profit theatre depends largely on volunteers, there are some base stuffs who are usually paid for their services. They are all educative to the community members because they impact knowledge to the people through their content. Entertainment is key in the current times. People will always want to relax and take a rest from their daily activities. It is with no doubt that these theaters are a source of entertainment that an individual would yearn for and they are more or less the same.

Response to Question 4

I will utilize interpretation as the underlining production concept with regards to period, approach, audience-reaction, directions to the designers, rehearsal-coaching among others in Mr. Burns, A Post-Electris Play. As such, the approach will encompass three overt steps which include; information, decision and action. Getting information about the play is very essential due to the fact that I will be able to identify the most conspicuous loopholes. After being acquainted with the information, the decision will base on the necessary changes that ought to be made and lastly implement the decision through action. These steps will occur simultaneously because one leads to the other. It is important to note that in the earlier production of Mr. Burns, A Post-Electris Play, the characters were many, they had to put up an act within the play and some of them appeared few times which, in my opinion, posed some form of confusion to the audience. Nonetheless, my new production will deal with these loopholes effectively. I will focus on ensuring that all people involved in production have understood where the problem comes from and what needs to be done at each moment.

I will start by reducing the number of characters in the play from 18 to 14 so that the audience can be conversant with them. During the rehearsal, I will encourage actors to choose roles that they are comfortable with and ensure that they have mastered the script in order to boost their confidence. The person to characterize the first and second FBI agents must be fierce in stature and also fit to reflect the image of the disciplined forces. I will also add more content to Mr. Buns, A Post-Electris Play to make sure that actors appear many times on the stage, with regalia that directly and clearly epitomizes the specific role. Here, I will reveal hidden scenes of destruction of civilization through real life examples elicited through a background narrator. This will counter the confusion that was experienced during the earlier production where some characters appeared only three times and then disappeared. I will liaise with the sound designer when it comes to purchasing the best musical instruments so that the characters can no longer hum and beat boxes to produce instrumental sounds; this move aims at modernizing the themes and marrying them to the audience in a bid to ease understanding and elicit emotion. Here, I shall expect a congruent reaction from the audience depending on the theme; for instance, a somber theme when narrating civilization-destruction is expected to attract mournful silence whereas a happy one attracts ecstatic faces. As such, the Simpsons song musical sound produced should match with the events in the play. Additionally, I will advise the director to change the fact that actors put up an act within the play to eliminate the confusion. The actors will be encouraged to always focus on the audience to avoid giving them their back; this shall sink the audience’s attention to the act.

I will also request the event designer to arrange the chairs in a circular but organized way to ensure that the audience have the clearest view of the acts. Moreover, I will instruct the light designers to change the light system so that when the characters are changing, it is so dark that the audience cannot see them. This move is key because the audience does not need to drag the initial scene’s traits of a given character (for example the same person playing Suzanna and Nedra who exhibit totally different traits) to the current one; this derails the audience’s concentration on the thematic flow of the play. For the costume designers, I will advise them to be alert in the sense that the costumes needed for the scene that follows thereafter to be always ready and arranged appropriately for each of the actors going to perform on the stage. The play will be produced during winter, and over a stretch of three divided scenes, because winter attracts concentration and minimizes distractions especially when the acts are happening in an enclosed theatre. On the other hand, leaflets will be issued prior to the start of the play so that those audience who lack background information on the Simpsons song can no longer be disadvantaged. Since I have worked on eliminating the factors that would confuse the audience, I expect them to be amazed with the new production. All these aspects will be a success through the idea of being supportive, specific and real.
