Shift work eating habits - HELP -
I am new to this, so bare with me, I eat fairly good all day long and i exercise at leat 3 time a week. I am currently working an afternoon shift and what happens is when I get home at night, I am starving and I pig out on what ever there is. And then when I wake up in the morning I start all over again. I Have been eating like this for a while but since turing 40 something has changed and the pounds are piling up. Does anyone know what a good healthy (munchie) snack would be when I get home? I usually go to bed within the hour because I get up early. And I am alergic to nuts.
Thanks

Preventia?
Preventia has a product out - 100 calories per pack of cookies and I know they have a no peanut stamp on there... not sure about other nuts but it is a start!
Cottage cheese or plain yogurt with some fresh fruit is a good snack, and it's what I always rely on when I want something sweet. If you are looking for something munchie, baby carrots are yummy and pretty easy to reach for. If you like savory foods, rice cakes might be a good alternative as well, although I don't know about the nuts.
If you like sweet foods like I do, the cookie ilse has improved - there are lots of individually wrapped (100 calories or so each pack) cookie bags so that you don't find yourself eating a whole bag of oreos before you know what you've done. They also have goldfish and other salty foods if that's what you tend to reach for.
One thing I've learned is that you can't totally deprive yourself of the things you love - you just have to learn some self control :)
I hope that helped a little bit.

Fresh Fruit
The best thing in the world to eat before bed if you feel like piging out is frest fruit. Apples kills that need to have something crunchy and melons will fill you up because of the water that is in them. The more fruit the fiber and that will help in the morning when you wake up, to get your day started. Try bying only the things that you know are healthy to eat for breakefast, like toast (whole wheat) speical k protein drink and water and more fruit. Weight loss I'm finding is a matter of mind. You have to put it in you mind that your going to stick to a healthy way of eating.

same boat
We have shift work in common. I think really planning ahead might help-at least that is what I am going to try next. What if you drank a protein shake or something on you way home or as your work shift was winding down?
