I have been using fitclick for about six days now. New to the online world of fitness support, but far from new to the world of fitness and nutrition. I'm 18 years old but I must admit I am borderline obsessive about my fitness level and healthy eating. For the first 16 or 17 years of my life I ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, care free of the impact it had on my body, of course I always wished I had a flatter stomach, better this or that, but never realized the capability I had of achieving it. But luckily I have "seen the light". Last year I had the best body of my life, and had unrelenting will power as it pertained to food, craving and self control. Now I am in my first year of university and my focus is a little shaken (I guess that's to be expected but still quite frustrating). I can go days eating impeccably, then blow it all on a weekend splurge (and let's just say I "go big or go home"... yes- I have been known to eat nutella out of the jar with a spoon). Despite my weekend short comings, of late I have been starting fresh Mondays with completely restored self control. I lead a very active lifestyle, playing varsity field hockey and working out (usually quite intensely) 6 or 7 days a week. Honestly, I don't really NEED to lose weight, but quite frankly I hold myself to very high standards: I want abs and I want an impeccable body. Basically Jillian Michaels is my idol, she is rock solid, toned beyond belief, fit as a horse, that's what I want, not to be skinny per say but extremely fit. So I have adopted the mantra: "what would Jillian Michaels do?" (or "what would JM do" for short). A few tips that have been working great for me so far getting back into things over the past three weeks: 1) Don't eat after dinner, eat your last meal no later than 7:30 and DON'T eat after, it really helps! 2) Google the stomach vaccum and try it, it's definitely worth a shot! 3) Get into a routine! Seriously, don't just work out randomly, make a plan (when/where/what) for your workout, you're soooo much likelier to follow through that way. 4) As shitty as it can be, try working out early in the morning (yes I am talking 6:30-7am). Sure it sucks, but it gets your day going, starts you off on the right foot and someone told me you're 300% more likely to go workout again if you workout before 9am 5) Go find a local running group and join it! I love running so it was easy for me to join, I run with a group out of running works, it's 3 times a week, great atmosphere, great people and gives you that extra push to get out there. Plus it's suitable for any level, and there's many distances you can train for! Like I am one of, if not the best runner in my group and I trained with a club for a few months a couple years back and ran in high school, but nothing major. There's no provincial champs here to show everyone up, it's a comfortable dynamic. As young as I am, I have a real passion for fitness and nutrition, I love to talk about it, and to share the knowledge and experience I have gained thus far on my journey to becoming (for lack of a better word) "jacked", so please don't hesitate to strike up a conversation! Remember: WWJMD? ("what would Jillian Michaels do?)
