Day 5

Day 5 now and I am going strong. I'm also very sore. But, I kind of like the feeling. It reminds me of when I was a basketball player coming back from having the summer off. They'd virtually kill us in drills and I'd barely be able to walk for a while. Ofcourse, I'm not nearly as sore now but I'm definitley feeling it and it feels good.

I also weighed myself yesterday and it turns out that I am 5 pounds heavier than I originally thought. So, I'll just have to write it down and weigh myself every Thursday at 12pm to make sure I get the right weightloss. I honestly can't believe I've gotten as heavy as I have. I come from a family of very thin people, or atleast healthy but not obese. I've always felt overweight though, even when I was a size six. So I think my weight issues have more to do with the psychology of eating rather than genetics. I really think that I eat for comfort rather than nourishment and doing that without exercise is a easy way to gain weight. I am also on anti-depressants which are known for their weight gain side effect.

As for the comfort eating, I think to some extent that is natural and more common than I think. It becomes a disorder I'm assuming when it has an effect on your health. So I am more mindful before I eat now. I'm not counting calories, but before I go to the fridge I ask myself if I am really hungry or do I really need to eat. This is the first question, the next question is do I really need to eat THAT. Generally speaking, I'm pretty good with my regular meals. Oatmeal for breakfast, soup, crackers, fruit and yogurt for lunch and some meat and veggie for dinner. But I will over eat if I get ahold of chips ice cream or pizza. Those are just my things :) So, I try to keep them out of reach. Actually I got some small pizzas from the store. They are by no means healthy, but they are enough to satisfy my pizza needs and they are small, which means I can't over eat with them. 'So I'm developing little strategies, but the biggest thing for me I think is getting that exercise and staying hydrated. I know the combination will lead to wieght loss.

So today (day five) I am going to do the Jillian Micheals workout DVD and also go to the tennis court and hit the ball up against the wall for an hour or so. The good thing about doing that is it gets you running back and forth and tones your arms up too.

I also forgot to mention that I am on my monthly cycle. TMI maybe, but I've seriously been fighting low energy and cramps for the past two days. So, kudos to me for keeping up the workout routine and staying motivated in spite of that!
