I spent a good chunck of my 26 years being overweight and slowly sliding into the obese catagory. My teenage years is when I first started to notice that there was a problem and I needed to do something about it, however nothing I tried worked ( and believe me I tried it all), and going to people who should have been willing to help me only gave me phrases such as "you are never going to be as skinny as your sister - just accept it." At the age of 21 I met a wonderful man and we were married 2 years later. We tried for two years to get pregnant and I finally broke down and went to the doctor's office. After rounds of blood tests and ultrasounds I was diagnosed with PCOS ( Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) I had no idea what that was. My first specialist told me to go home and research what PCOS was and to come back with any questions at my next appointment. He said it would be like looking in a mirror I had most of the classic symptoms. I took his advice and looked it up - oh my goodness it was me!!! Here at last was the reason that I couldn't do this on my own. Now came the hard part - accepting that for the time being I was infertile. That was hard - well okay it still is hard. But I was put on a low carb diet given some meds and sent home to try and make a baby - after 2 months of no baby my first specialist told me I must not want a baby that bad because I wasn't losing weight fast enough. After complaining to my family doctor we decided to take a break for a while and try again in 6 months without the specialist, but after trying with no success I gave up on the diet and the exercise and fell into this state of uncaring.
I have now however, picked myself back up and am ready to try again, I now have a workout team as I am going to call them consisting of my wonderful and supportive husband, my good friend, her husband, and her sister! Due to the fact that it is Thanksgiving weekend ( for those who live in Canada anyway) our group workout starts on Monday - I cannot wait. My family doctor has suggested the G.I diet and in my opinion is amazing - and we are going to be doing a beginners cardio and weight lifting routine - we will have to see how it goes!
The countdown continues......3 more days!!!!
