Long Run #2

Today's run was fairly uneventful, with the exception of one event. I face-planted. I'm just running along, apparently not paying enough attention to the trail, step in a crack and bam! I'm on the ground! Skinned my hands, arm and a leg, also sort of twisted my good ankle. All this happened a little over 2 miles in, so I'm that far from my car and still have at least another 3 miles to go. Not a good feeling. I talked myself into getting back up and kept going. I even finished my long run. My ankle got back into the swing and really the only thing that hurt was my hands where they burned from being scraped on the gravel. Now my ankles are both calling me a dummy for doing this to them. They hurt! Yay for ice packs and no work today! On another note, I really need to start eating better. I was kind of hoping I might lose some weight in doing this, and so far it looks like my tummy is still woefully the same. Maybe it's coming off my butt where I can't see it. Or maybe I'm just making up for the calories I burn with junk food... I'm thinking it's probably that last reason, darn Halloween candy! On the other hand, the longer my runs get the better that will be. Plans have changed in the last week too. It was nasty weather on Thursday and Friday, so I missed some workouts, thus the long run on a Wednesday. I was pretty proud of myself for getting a whole mile in the rain, cold and wind. I also found out we need to change the December race to one a week earlier in Austin so that Julie can compete. The good news is that this one has the option of running a 10K, which will be just about right to be part of my training for February. The bad news is that it is in hill country down by Austin, and hills are hard! I need to really start training on the hilly part I've been avoiding. I ran it today and it wasn't too bad, but I'm not sure what the comparison is with the actual course. I also have to be registered by tomorrow for it or the price goes up. Still, it should be a challenge, and everyone likes a good challenge right?...
