Well, here I go...
The first challenge is eating. I have a total of 7 teeth and none of them are lined up with another, so finding healthy food that I can "bite" into is not easy. Of course, there's cooking food. With one knee and my back in such bad condition, I can't stand longer than 5 minutes. In addition, I have several severe medical conditions: Type I Diabetes and Stage IV Non-alcoholic, Fatty-tissue Cirrhosis are the two most dangerous. So, I have to find foods that are most forgiven by my blood sugar and my liver.
The second challenge is the exercise program. I own one of those little stationary, manual pedal "bikes" (for lack of a better word) so I'm setting that up in the living room. That way I can watch TV while pedaling. I also have an arch climber (Gazelle) that I hope to get set up soon so I can work on it a few minutes every day. And, somewhere in this cluttered home, I have a pedometer so track my steps.
To get around inside the house, I use a cane. To walk outside, I have to use my rollator (a walker on wheels with a seat built into it).
Today, my husband and I are going to check out the Senior Center here. They have a gym, a billiards room and a games room that includes foosball, air hockey, and skeeball, to list a few. It's free for anyone 50 or over. So far those of us here that qualify, you might want to check out your own local senior center. To find out more information, I went on-line to my city's website and clicked on the Parks and Recreation Dept.'s button and found a long list of all kinds of facilities for every age group and we live in a medium-size city. So that's my Tip of the Day for all of you.
Have a great and prosperous day today.
