The time has come to do some serious navel gazing - in a positive and constructive way, of course... My weight has greatly increased in the last few years. I can feel how my body struggles to lug around this 250 lbs. Nearly every day I have some sort of minor ache or pain. Before I end up causing some serious long term damage to this body, I need to give it a good tune up. I need to lose weight to give myself the best chance for a healthy post-middle age.
I've done it before. Several years ago I was spending 2 hours in the gym on most nights. It was great. I loved how it felt to exercise and become increasingly fit. My goal is to get back to that feeling on a regular basis.
I don't need to be very thin. I just need to get to a point where I am happy. To get there, I have to implement some changes and make some new healthy habits.
For me, it's not feasible to change everything all at once. I can't do radical diets or exercise habits. Making small changes over time will get me to where I want to be without driving myself crazy about giving up all my favourite foods. To that end, here are the changes I am currently implementing:
-
Eating a minimum of two healthy meals per day. ("Healthy" is relative, I suppose. For me, it means a meal with less than 600 calories and includes fruit, vegetables and a reasonable number of carbs and fat.)
-
Track my meals in FitClick to increase my awareness of what is going into my body.
-
Weigh myself at least every two days.
Given that I've been eating many calories, these little changes will make a difference. I would love to lose 10 lbs in June. That would give me 24 days to lose another 8 lbs. It's a bit of a stretch - I will need to stay focused.
I will set new goals for July. At that point, I hope to have become more active. For now that's on the backburner because of a sore back which is taking longer than usual to heal.
Good luck to all, and don't forget that baby steps will get you to where you are going!
