Variable Effort Run / Cross Training Activity

Be aware that running inside is easier than running outside due to the lack of wind resistence and other weather conditions. Often your pace time inside will not translate outdoors so you might need to adjust your RPE level.

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertion and is based on a 10-point scale.

10 = extreme exertion -- conversation is impossible

8 = high effort -- conversation is extremely labored

6 = optimum effort -- conversation is difficult, but possible

4 = medium effort -- conversation is easy to maintain

2 = warm up

I will be doing the elliptical instead. I don't run. The last time I ran serious was nearly six years ago when I was in the military.

I found this really helps with my side aches. On the tread mill I get winded a little easier and chronic side aches. So I have always just ran at 6 mph but since I started belly breathing I can run on 8 which is sub 7 min. miles. It has helped so much and I have been shaving big numbers of my 10k time due to zero side aches.
