From the creator: Description
Push-ups are a body weight exercise which work your arms, chest and core. There are many variations to try out but the traditional push-up is a classic!
Step-by-step
1.Start with your hands directly beneath your shoulders, toes together and your body in a straight line from your feet to your shoulders
2.Lower yourself until your elbows pass through a 90° angle
3.Keep your elbows tucked into your side rather than going outwards into a T
4.Maintain the straight line from your feet to your shoulders, engage your glutes and abs to keep yourself in line
5.Push up by straightening your arms so you return to your starting position
6.This is one rep of the push-up
Progression tips
There are many varieties of push-up, some are easier than the traditional push-up and others are harder. To work up to a full body weight push-up, you can start with modified (from the knees) push-ups to give you a lighter load but maintaining full range of motion. There's also the option to perform incline push-ups where you perform a push-up with your feet on the ground but your arms on a raised surface. Once you have mastered the traditional push-up however, that's where the fun begins! Check out variations such as diamond, clap, one-armed or handstand push-ups to give your workouts fresh variations on the traditional push-up.
