Now, I know what you're thinking -- "Didn't I see that on Fear Factor once?" They did have duck eggs on it once and all I could think of was Vietnamese people happening across the channel and thinking they were on a Food Network cooking show. But once you get past the mental block, they are actually delicious. Think about it this way -- if you eat chicken, and you eat eggs, why wouldn't you eat something that was right in the middle of that process? Crack open the shell, drink the juic...

Got back last week from an enjoyable beach holiday and have been finding it difficult to get back into the groove workout-wise. It might be due to gaining weight over the vacation, due to downing excessive, but delicious quantities of food and beer (a fantastic lobster risotto comes to mind). But it's probably more related to a desire to be doing more of the same. Hard to beat more time at the beach, albeit with a posse of kids all under the age of 5... but I digress...
What is th...

Let me preface this by saying that my days of drinking large quantities of major-brewery beers have been past for quite a long time. I think when the need of pints into the double digits eases, the desire for quality becomes more important. Some would say that I'm not a loyal customer. Or some would say that I've broadened my horizons. Whatever.
All that being said, when it's over 95 degrees and sweat is dripping off my nose and onto the charred burgers on my grill, I have very fe...

If you've never been to Busch Gardens down in southern VA it's a pretty fun place. Both of my kids are young (less than 4), but they had a great time at the park. BG recently added a "Sesame Street" area for kids with a great water feature and rides for kids so it was great fun for everyone (and I'm generally not a fan of amusement parks -- don't like rides).
HOWEVER, if you're trying to drive south from the DC area on a Friday in the summer you're in for a back-breaking experience. We as...

This past weekend I was skimming through the most recent Sports Illustrated when I came upon an article about former Orioles manager Earl Weaver. Since I imagine that many of you aren't baseball fans, I won't bore you with the details. But one of his philosophies (which, by baseball standards, was ahead of his time) was that the outs in a game are precious. There are a finite number of outs in a baseball game (27 per side) and they should not be squandered. So he was a big fan of taking walks as...

I don't know about you, but staying on a decent schedule drinking good ole' H2O becomes somewhat difficult during the weekend. I'm not really solid with the calorie counter on the weekends (and since I'm really not that overweight I'm not too aggressive... but still those last 10 lbs or so aren't going away... but i digress...) but I think I'm worst at drinking water. I found myself sitting on the couch as my kids we're finishing up their nap last sunday afternoon having taken in ZERO ounces of ...

Yes, I cracked the 4000 calorie level on Saturday. The beers didn't help, the batch of Long Island Ice Tea made by my wife's aunt (I guess she was trying to re-live her youth... it would have been rude to say no, right?), but the massive amount of ice cream cake for dessert was the literal icing on the... you know.
Sure it was melting all over the coffee table. And I WAS trying to help out by taking an extra large piece. But the 3rd piece was certainly unnecessary. Despite what I tracked,...

If you've never been to a wedding reception at a Chinese restaurant (very common among many different Asian groups), you're missing out on a true feast. Quality of food and decor can vary from location to location, but the one we attended last night was right up there. But it can be damaging to your waistline -- multiple courses, free-flowing Heineken (not sure why, but that is the beer of choice for many Asian folks) -- needless to say, it's hard to maintain control. Tops on my list is the gril...
